CCC Meets with State Legislators on Impact of Governor’s Budget

Over 30 CCC staff and volunteers (adults and youth) made our voices heard in Albany last week.  In meetings with 20 legislators and their staff, we shared our budget and policy recommendations related to children.

CCC let decision-makers in Albany know that we support raising the minimum wage, state support for full-day universal pre-kindergarten, and increasing school aid.

On the other hand, CCC made sure our elected officials knew that we oppose proposed cuts to programs for sexually exploited youth, public health programs (such as WIC and asthma control programs), and the Court Appointed Special Advocates program. We also opposed changes to Early Intervention and Family Health Plus, as they could potentially impede access to services or disrupt coverage.

CCC made additional recommendations, including that the State pass the NY State Dream Act, add additional resources to accommodate the transition to a new High School Equivalency test, increase the number of Family Court Judges and increase funding for child care, after-school programs and runaway and homeless youth programs.
