Citizens’ Committee for Children of New York (CCC) is a nonprofit and nonpartisan child advocacy organization. We educate and mobilize New Yorkers to make the city a better place for children. Our advocacy combines public policy research and data analysis with citizen action. We cast light on the issues, educate the public, engage allies, and identify and promote practical solutions to ensure that every New York City child is healthy, housed, educated and safe.
Making New York a Better Place to Be a Child
New York City is home to more children than any other city in the country. Citizens’ Committee for Children of New York:
- Gathers data on these children to fully understand what it’s like to be a child in New York City
- Researches and analyzes government budgets, policies, programs and services to improve the lives of children
- Educates the community about our findings, and
- Develops and promotes solutions that make New York City a better place to be a child.

- Quality health and mental health services
- Safe and stable housing
- Quality early childhood education, education, and after-school programs
- A safe home, and to be positively engaged in their school and community

What makes us effective
CCC is the leading child advocacy organization in New York City because:
- We are independent. We are non-profit, nonpartisan and independent from government funding and therefore unbiased in the partnerships we form and the solutions we explore
- We are thorough. We work across many issues and can identify the most pressing problems children face
- We are experts. We host Keeping Track of New York City’s Children, the most extensive database available on the status of the city’s 2 million children, which informs our priorities and is used extensively by parents, professionals, government officials and others to understand and improve the lives of New York City’s children
- We study the issues deeply. We conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of the State and City budgets and programs that serve children and families
- We spread the word. We offer innovative child advocacy courses and advocacy tools that reach tens-of-thousands of New Yorkers annually, helping them to help children
- We collaborate. We work closely with citizen volunteers and with colleagues, inside and outside of the government, in all aspects of our work.
