Statement From CCC on Paid Family Leave for UFT Teachers and StaffReleased June 20, 2018For Immediate Release: June 20, 2018 Contact: Elysia Murphy, emurphy@cccnewyork.org, 212-673-1800 x18 Statement From CCC on Paid Family Leave for UFT Teachers and Staff “We congratulate the City on reaching an agreement to provide 12 weeks paid family leave for UFT teachers and staff. This is an important step towards making NYC a fairer and more equitable city. However, we note the troubling irony that this announcement was made just as the union representing the early childhood workforce in community based organizations rallied for salary parity. The progress made today, for UFT teachers and staff, widens the profound inequality that persists between DOE teachers and staff and peers in community based early childhood workforce. Teachers and staff in community based organizations are not only playing a seminal role in ensuring the success of the Mayor’s ambitious prekindergarten for all 4 year olds and expansion of PreK to 3 year olds initiatives, but they have for decades provided high quality infant and toddler care for the youngest New Yorkers. These community based teachers and staff need to live, work, and raise their children in this city and they need salaries and benefits that are equal to their DOE peers. We urge the City administration to do the right thing and achieve salary parity now for the early childhood workforce.” ### About CCC Citizens’ Committee for Children of New York educates and mobilizes New Yorkers to make the city a better place for children.
