Local Child Advocates Praise Efforts of New Administration to Strengthen Child Outcomes in NYC

Mayor de Blasio’s State of the City address today emphasized how investments in New York City’s children are not only a commitment to their future, but also to our own. We applaud the Mayor for setting the right tone and laying out an ambitious agenda for New York City.

Under Mayor de Blasio’s leadership, the city is advancing priorities that will no doubt go a long way in better meeting the needs of New York City’s 1.8 million children. We wholeheartedly support the city’s efforts to stimulate economic stability for low and middle income families by providing paid sick leave and raising the minimum wage, as well as developing 200,000 new affordable housing units and protecting access to community health services. We also continue to stand behind the city’s plan to ensure that every four-year-old has access to full day pre-kindergarten services and every middle schooler an after-school program.

We stand ready to work with our city’s leadership to ensure that all children have access to the opportunities, services and supports that they need to reach their full potential.
