NYC’s Congressional Delegation Must Vote No to Farm Bill

January 28, 2014 – Tomorrow, the House will vote on a version of the Farm Bill that cuts SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or Food Stamps) by $8.6 billion.

SNAP helps to feed 1.8 million New Yorkers – about 700,000 of whom are children. We appreciate that many elected officials worked hard to prevent even greater reductions to SNAP in this Farm Bill.  However, we believe that the remaining large cut to SNAP is unconscionable and would literally take food out of the mouths of hungry children and families.

SNAP is crucial to the health and well-being of so many New Yorkers.  We therefore stand with other advocates in the fight against childhood hunger to oppose this Farm Bill.
