CCC Statement on 2019 State of the State and Budget AddressReleased January 15, 2019New York, NY — In his State of the State address today, Governor Cuomo outlined a progressive justice agenda that takes many ambitious steps to improve the well-being of all New Yorkers. Some of the key commitments highlighted in his speech include passage of the Child Victims Act, the DREAM Act, the Comprehensive Contraceptive Coverage Act, and the Reproductive Health Act; enacting cash bail reform and funding implementation of Raise the Age; enacting rent regulation reforms and ending vacancy decontrol; reducing taxes for middle class households; and ensuring that Education funding is distributed directly to the poorest schools within school districts. As budget negotiations and the legislative session commence, CCC seeks to build on this agenda by paying attention to the needs of New York’s most vulnerable children and families. Among our core policy and budget priorities, we look forward to working with the Governor and State Legislature to secure investments in services and subsidies that combat family homelessness, restore resources for child welfare prevention and foster care, protect and expand access to Early Intervention and behavioral health services for children, and ensure that tax relief benefits New York’s lowest income households, among others.
