CCC held a Policy Briefing, Promoting Teen Reproductive Health in NYC, to explore the current trends and programs aimed at helping youth make healthy decisions about their sexual and reproductive health, avoid unintended pregnancies, and reduce sexually transmitted infections.
While the citywide teen pregnancy rate has declined 26% over the past decade, there continue to be disparities by borough, community, income level and race/ethnicity. This policy briefing focused on:
The state of teen reproductive health in the five boroughs of New York City.
Programs, services and models currently in place at Inwood House and Planned Parenthood of New York City.
Bronx Teens Connection, the multi-agency and community engagement initiative aimed at improving sexual and reproductive teen health in the South Bronx.
Challenges that still persist and opportunities for the future.
The speakers included:
Dr. Deborah Kaplan, DrPH, MPH, R-PA, Assistant Commissioner, Bureau of Maternal, Infant and Reproductive Health, NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
Linda Lausell Bryant, PhD, MSW, Executive Director, Inwood House
Louise Marchena, MSW, Director of Youth Programs, Planned Parenthood of New York City, Inc.
Deborah O’Uhuru, Clinic Linkage Coordinator, Bronx Teens Connection, NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
