The middle school years, from grades 6 – 8, are an important stage in a child’s social and educational development and lay the foundation for a student’s long-term academic success. This CCC Policy Briefing discussed ways educators are working to identify struggling middle school students and support them in preparing for a successful transition to high school and beyond graduation.

Panelists discussed:

• How the New York City Department of Education is seeking to keep middle school students on track
• The strategies and tools FHI 360 provides NYC middles schools, including early warning systems that identify middle schoolers starting to fall off track.
• How one Bronx middle school has implemented a system to identify struggling middle school students and then to intervene early.

Speakers included:
