CCC’s Policy Briefing, Innovative Practices: Model Programs in New York City School Food, provided information about model school meal and nutrition education programming currently being implemented in schools and communities throughout New York City. Panelists discussed the challenges of and best practices for working with youth, school staff, and families in ensuring public school students have access to healthy food. The policy briefing brought together experts to discuss:

• The New York City Department of Education’s Office of School Foods’ work to provide over a million public school children with healthy meals on a daily basis
• Innovative nutrition education programs for the classroom and after-school programs
• The benefits of school garden programs, and their establishment in New York City public schools
• Model practices for engaging and educating parents about School Meals
