April is Tax Time! Did you know that tax credits are a critical tool for helping low-income working families achieve self-sufficiency, better provide for their children, and even save for the future? It is true—tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Care Tax Credit are helping thousands of New Yorkers! CCC’s Policy Briefing provided valuable information about these credits, the positive impact they have on the financial security of low-income families, and how community-based organizations help New Yorkers claim the credits to which they are entitled.
The Panelists discussed:
City, State, and Federal Tax Credits (including the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Care Tax Credit); who is eligible to claim these credits, how they are claimed, and how many New Yorkers claim them; and the vital role these credits play in helping working families achieve financial security.
The outreach and education efforts and initiatives that help low-income New Yorkers learn about these credits and how to claim them.
The Food Bank’s Tax Assistance Program, which provides low-income New Yorkers with tax preparation services and other financial services that enable economic self-sufficiency.
Speakers included:
Christine D’Onofrio, Senior Research Associate, Center for Economic Opportunity, New York City
Tamara Lindsay, Director of Programs, NYC Department of Consumer Affairs Office of Financial Empowerment
German Tejeda, Senior Director of Tax Services, the Food Bank for New York City
