CCC’s Policy Briefing, Family Interventions for Runaway and Homeless Youth, discussed current policies, trends and initiatives related to working with runaway and homeless youth and their families to, when appropriate, mend relationships or facilitate reunification.
Family conflict is a major cause of youth homelessness, and recent research has brought increasing attention to the importance of working with the families of runaway and homeless youth as a strategy to reduce and prevent youth homelessness. This policy briefing brought together experts to discuss:
Efforts to increase family involvement that are currently underway at the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development.
Outcomes and challenges for runaway and homeless youth services providers working with family members.
A new family therapy pilot project targeting LGBTQ youth who are homeless or at risk of being homeless.
Ideas for additional supports and services for working with families of runaway and homeless youth.
