Recently named to Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2015, Bryan Stevenson is a social justice advocate — particularly in the context of criminal justice reform — and one of the most visionary legal thinkers in the country. Founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, and author of Just Mercy, Stevenson has been called “America’s young Nelson Mandela” by Nobel Laureate Desmond Tutu and “perhaps the most inspiring and influential crusader for justice alive today” by Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow.
Eleanor Roosevelt Award Anne E. Delaney
A longtime supporter of CCC, Anne Delaney is a philanthropist, arts and social justice advocate, and artist. She is Chair of the Board of the New York Women’s Foundation, a cross-cultural alliance of women promoting economic security and justice for women, families, and communities in New York City. Founder of The Starry Night Fund and the Lambent Foundation, Delaney is also a Board Member of Peace is Loud, and past Board member of the Ms. Foundation, and the Little Red School House & Elisabeth Irwin School (LREI).
Vanguard Award Robert Reffkin
A former White House Fellow with a background in banking, in 2009 Robert Reffkin founded the non-profit America Needs You, to fight for economic mobility for ambitious, first-generation college students. Starting in 2007, Reffkin ran 50 marathons in 50 states to raise over $1 million for youth education and enrichment programs. He is also the Founder and CEO of Compass, a tech-driven New York City real estate firm. Previous to that, Reffkin worked at Goldman Sachs, Lazard Frères and McKinsey & Company.
Samuel P. Peabody Award Ismael Nazario
A Case Worker at the Fortune Society, Ismael Nazario helps former inmates from Rikers Island reenter society after release. Nazario himself was arrested as a teenager and spent 300 days in solitary confinement at Rikers Island before he was ever convicted of a crime. Now as part of the I-CAN (Individualized Correction Achievement Network) program, he helps those at high risk for recidivism and is also a notable advocate for prison reform and for raising the age of criminal responsibility in New York.
Master of Ceremonies Juju Chang
Juju Chang is an Emmy Award-winning co-anchor of ABC News’ “Nightline.” She also reports regularly for “Good Morning America” and “20/20.” Her many hour-long reports include the story of murdered 8th grader Larry King, which examined the issues of anti-gay bullying and juvenile justice. She has covered breaking news from the devastating effects of Superstorm Sandy to the mass shootings in Newtown, to global stories like the earthquake in Haiti and infant mortality in Mozambique. Born in Seoul, South Korea and raised in California, Chang graduated with honors from Stanford University with a BA in political science and communication.
