Ensuring A Complete Count of Children In 2020
Every Child Counts NYC! is a CCC campaign advocating for a fair and accurate
count of all children living in New York City. By educating and mobilizing youth and
adults, we will reach our goal to provide the information and tools needed to ensure
children are counted and not erased in the 2020 Census.

Nationwide, the undercount of children — especially children under 5 — has worsened since 1980.

What is the Census?
The U.S. Constitution requires a Census to count every resident in the United States every 10 years. The data collected by the Census determine the number of seats each state has in Congress and is also used to distribute billions in federal funds to local communities. Everyone counts in the Census.

2020 Census Timeline
Below are some key 2020 Census dates.
March 2020
Census informational postcards will be sent to most homes.
March 2020
March 12-20: Census Bureau sends letters with information to complete the Census online (most will get this) or paper Census forms.
March 2020
March 16-24: Census Bureau mails reminder letter to people who have not completed the Census.
March 2020
March 26-April 3: Census Bureau mails reminder postcard to people who have not completed a Census.
April 2020
April 1 (Census Day): An important advocacy day for completing the Census.
April 2020
Census Bureau sends reminder letter and paper version of the Census to people who have not completed a Census.
May 2020
May–July: Census enumerators visit households that did not complete a Census questionnaire to collect information at the door.
