CCC Testimony: Re Int: 773: Requiring the Department of Education to provide data related to student participation in free meals in schools

CCC testified before the New York City Council Committee on Education on January 25, 2016 at a hearing on Int. 773, a bill that would require the Department of Education (DOE) to provide data related to student participation in free school meals in school. Intro 773 focuses on three critical components of the school meals program: improving the take-up rate for breakfast; access to salad bars; and increasing the take-up rate of CACFP (The Child and Adult Care Food Program) funded after-school snacks and suppers. Each component of this bill is important in ensuring students are fed and able to learn. We appreciate the goals of this data reporting bill and think it is important to understand as much of the data related to school meals as possible, so that we can target efforts to improve the system as best as possible.
