CCC Testimony: New York City Council Hearing on Resolution Calling on City and State of New York to Create Rental Subsidy Program for the Homeless

CCC testified before the New York City Council General Welfare Committee on March 26, 2014 in support of Resolution Number 123-A. This resolution calls on the New York State Assembly and Senate to pass a budget which does not bar New York City from using State reimbursement for rental subsidy programs for the homeless as well as directs the City and State to work together in creating a rental subsidy program for the homeless.

With unprecedented numbers of families and children living in homeless shelters for increased lengths of stay, the City and State must take immediate action, including the creation of a new rental assistance program that can help families move out of shelter.  Housing subsidies have proven to be effective tool to enable some families to successfully transition from shelters into permanent housing.

CCC urged the City Council to pass the resolution and for the State to take immediate action so the over 22,000 homeless children do not have to wait any longer for a new rental subsidy program.
