CCC Testimony: New York City Council Hearing on Resolution Calling for an Adequately Funded Federal Farm Bill

CCC testified in support of the City Council Resolution that called on the United States Congress to pass a Farm Bill that is adequately funded and creates a strong and healthy food system at the May 21, 2012City Council Health Committee Hearing.

The Farm Bill is the largest source of funding for several of the most critical nutrition assistance programs that bring much-needed assistance to New Yorkers struggling with food insecurity, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (“SNAP” or “Food Stamps”) and the Emergency Food Assistance Program (“TEFAP”). Congress is in currently debating its reauthorization and CCC testified about our appreciation for the City Council’s support and the Council’s work to increase access to healthy, affordable foods in New York City.
