CCC Testimony: New York City Council General Welfare Hearing on Resolution Calling for a Federal Farm Bill that Preserves Funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

At a June 25, 2013 City Council General Welfare hearing, CCC submitted testimony in support of  City Council Resolution 543-A, which called on the United States Congress to pass, and the President to sign, a Farm Bill that preserves funding for the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (“SNAP” or “Food Stamps”).

The Farm Bill is the largest source of funding for several critical federal food programs that bring much-needed assistance to New Yorkers struggling with food insecurity, including SNAP.  Nearly 1.9 million New York City residents currently receive SNAP benefits, which provide them with the resources needed to purchase food.  In its testimony, CCC asserted that a Farm Bill that protects the SNAP program is essential to the food security of New Yorkers and the economy of New York City.
