CCC Testimony: New York City Council Finance Committee Hearing on Fiscal Year 2014 Executive Proposals

CCC testified about the impact the Fiscal Year 2014 Executive Budget would have on children and families, at the June 5, 2013 City Council Finance Committee Public Hearing on the Fiscal Year 2014 Executive Budget.

CCC thanked the City Council for its continued support and urged the City Council and the Administration to negotiate a budget that both restores and baselines funding for programs and initiatives the City Council has been historically funding.

CCC urged the Council to negotiate a budget that restores and baselines over $130 million for over 47,000 child care and after-school slots, as well as funding for the suicide prevention hotline, mental health for children under 5 years old, the Teen Relationship Abuse Prevention Program (Teen RAPP) and emergency food programs. In addition, CCC urged the City Council to stop new proposed cuts that would reduce funding subsidies to school based health centers and increase the price of school lunch.  CCC also urged the City Council to restore and baseline $7.2 million for Runaway and Homeless Youth services and add $1.5 million to expand services to better meet the need.
