CCC testified on May 24, 2016 before the City Council Finance Committee on the Fiscal Year 2017 Executive Budget.
The Executive Budget for FY17 builds on the Preliminary Budget by investing additional resources in some critical areas that will benefit children and families including child welfare, Beacon community centers and physical education for elementary school students. On the other hand, like the City Council, CCC is deeply disappointed that the administration’s proposed budget adds very little for youth services, cuts summer programs for 31,000 middle school students, fails to invest in child care, and does not expand universal lunch.
The testimony focuses on the key areas where CCC supports the administration’s proposals and the areas where we are urging the City Council to negotiate an adopted budget that goes further for children and families, including: the restoration of summer programs for 31,000 children; salary parity for early childhood staff in community based organizations; the restoration and expansion of summer youth employment programs; universal lunch for all public school students; funding for emergency food programs; and more.
