Campaign for Children Impact Brief: Parent Voices: What Will You Do if the City Closes Your Child’s Child Care or After-School Program?

CCC is a member of the Campaign for Children, a partnership of the Emergency Coalition to Save Child Care and the NYC Youth Alliance, which was created to prevent the Mayor from cutting child care and after-school from 47,000 children due to lose care if the Mayor’s Budget is adopted.

CCC and the Campaign for Children administered a survey to over 4,000 parents asking them what they would do if the City closed their child’s child care or after-school program.

When forced to make this choice, half of parents using child care and over one-third of parents using after-school programs said they would quit their jobs to stay home with their children. Sixteen percent of parents using after-school programs, serving elementary and middle school students ages 5-13, said they would leave their children home alone.

The voices of parents, whose quotes are included in the Impact Brief, illustrate why the City must restore funding so that no child loses their child care or after-school program.
