Your Support on Salary Parity is Still Needed

Thanks to our e-action network, our Salary Parity Week of Action with the Campaign for Children was a great success.

Our supporters sent hundreds of emails, made phone calls and used social media to tweet at Mayor de Blasio and other key city leaders.

The week culminated with a rally in support of early educators at community-based organizations. We want to thank our city leaders, CBO partners and CCC volunteers who came out to the steps of Tweed Courthouse.

Our work is still not over. The city’s 2020 Budget is only days from being finalized. We need your continued help to ensure the budget makes salary parity in the early education workforce a reality. Scroll down to read about ways you can continue to help.

Continue to Call and E-mail Your City Decision makers

On Tuesday June 11^th and Thursday, June 13^th, we are asking supporter to take part in two more call-in days. Below are scripts you can use to call the Mayor and another to call City Council member.

Call the Mayor’s Office at 311

Script for supporters to call the Mayor:

Hi, my name is ________ and I am calling with a message for the Mayor.

I am concerned about the unfair salary and benefit differences between early education staff at community programs and DOE schools. Teachers at community programs earn up to 40% less than their peers at DOE, and health and retirement are also unequal.

For the sake of all families in my community, I urge the Mayor to address pay and benefit disparity in the 2020 budget and ensure that teachers, staff and directors in community-based early education programs receive equal pay for equal work.

Script for supporters to call their City Council member:

Hi, my name is ________ and I am calling with a message for Council Member _____.

I want to thank you for making salary and benefit parity in early childhood education a priority in the City Council’s Budget Response and for your continued effort to fight for its inclusion in the 2020 Budget.

For the sake of all families in my community, I urge you to stand by your commitments to not pass a budget unless it includes salary and benefit parity in early childhood education so that teachers, staff and directors  in community-based early education programs receive equal pay for equal work.

E-mail Mayor de Blasio and Chancellor Carranza

Last week, our supporters sent well over 300 emails to Mayor de Blasio and DOE Chancellor Richard Carranza.
