December 9, 2013 Thank You and Happy HolidaysWith the holiday season in full swing, we want to take a moment to thank you for all that you do for New York children and families. You use and share our new Keeping Track Online database, recent reports, and infographics, read our email and blog updates, and follow us and share our work on Facebook and Twitter. You attend our special events and policy briefings, take our child advocacy courses and you support CCC financially. And because of all that you do, together, we make a big difference in the lives of children. Together, we sent over 25,000 emails and petitions to elected and appointed officials and candidates and stood on the steps of City Hall to send a clear message that children need to be at the top of everyone’s agenda. Together, we restored city funds for essential child and family services like child care and after-school services, Runaway and Homeless Youth Services, Beacon Programs, child health clinics, mental health services for children, school-based health centers, and child advocacy centers. Together we helped achieve statewide increases in the minimum wage, increased funding for pre-kindergarten, and we fought off budget cuts to critically important state programs for sexually exploited youth, post-adoption services and Court Appointed Special Advocates. We have been urging everyone to Learn the Facts, Share the Facts and Be Part of the Solution. By being part of CCC, you are already part of the solution and we are inspired daily by your dedication to making New York a better place to be a child. Even with these successes, New York City’s child poverty rate is at its highest rate in almost a decade; 22,000 children sleep in shelters every night and the median income for New York City families with children declined an alarming 11.5% since 2008, despite the economic recovery in the city overall. Our work is cut out for us, but we are confident that as long as you keep working with us and support us financially, we can continue to change children’s lives. Again, thank you. Everyone at CCC wishes you and your family a happy and healthy holiday season. | Comments |
