Summer Learning at Summer Camp is Vital for NYC’s Children and Families

Citizens’ Committee for Children and the Campaign for Children are once again highlighting the importance of enrichment programs for children and youth, even during the summer months.

Earlier this year, it seemed like summer camp for 34,000 middle school children was on the chopping block, but thankfully Mayor de Blasio stepped in and saved camp for these middle school students this summer.

This allows parents, many of whom are working, to have the peace of mind that their children are spending their days in safe and enriching environments during the summer. These programs keep children and youth safe and literally off the streets and away from their TVs. Summer camp programs give children exciting opportunities to engage in new activities, visit different parts of the city on field trips, develop their skills and interests, and make new friends!

The Campaign for Children is highlighting this great summer learning on their website, and we encourage everyone to get involved by using social media to share what the young people YOU know are learning about this summer. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #SummerLearning.

Summer Camp Spotlight: Queens Community House Beacon Program
