April 10, 2013 Preview: CCC at MoMA on April 23rdOn April 23rd, CCC will host a special art evening and silent auction at the Museum of Modern Art to support our independent research, education and advocacy to improve the lives of the nearly 2 million children living in New York City, one-third of whom live in poverty. Because we do not accept government funding, we count on benefit events like this and supporters like you to make our work possible. Read on for more on the evening, including video previews of our honorees, artists, auction lots and exhibits. We hope you will join us and purchase tickets now. We are excited to be honoring Citi this year for being at the forefront of the important fields of financial literacy and asset building. Citi has invested over $200 million in innovative programs to meet the financial education needs of the communities they serve. Check out a great video of the Citi-supported San Francisco Kindergarten to College program: World-renowned sculptor and native New Yorker Joel Shapiro will join us as at MoMA as our Honorary Artist. Mr. Shapiro has shown at leading art institutions around the world and is well known for his dynamic work composed of rectangular shapes and compelling sculptures of human forms. In this video of Shapiro at work, the camera follows the assembly of 20 wooden elements into an extraordinary exhibit at Musée d’Orsay in Paris: Our MoMA silent auction will feature a variety of unique experiences of art, architecture and garden design including two private Joel Shapiro studio tours, with the winning bidders and their guests joining Mr. Shapiro for an exclusive look at his current work and insight into his art process. We will also be auctioning an intimate studio tour with Chuck Close, one of the leading contemporary painters and photographers of the 20th and 21st centuries. Check out this video of Chuck Close working on one of his trademark portraits in his studio: For premium ticketholders, CCC Celebrates at MoMA also includes a 6th floor reception with viewing of the 2013 special exhibition Claes Oldenburg: The Street and The Store. Check out this video of Oldenburg discussing a recent similar show, The Sixties, at mumok in Vienna: We hope all guests will enjoy our cocktail party in the Agnes Gund Garden Lobby, our “take action for kids” station, award presentation to Citi, and viewing of the 2nd floor Contemporary Galleries. We also invite all guests to view the selected Claes Oldenburg works Mouse Museum and Ray Gun Wing on display in the second floor Atrium.
