May 8, 2013 Not Again! City Budget Proposes Cuts to Children’s ServicesOn May 2, 2013, Mayor Bloomberg issued the final Executive Budget of his Administration, which unfortunately included over $210 million in cuts to services and programs for children and their families. Many of the Mayor’s proposed cuts are all too familiar. The Budget once again proposes to eliminate child care and after-school programs for over 47,000 children. In addition, the Budget proposes to cut mental health services for children under five, cut runaway and homeless youth services, close five child health clinics, eliminate the city subsidy to four school-based health centers, and cut funding that supports the use of food stamps/SNAP in farmers’ markets.
