Not Again! City Budget Proposes Cuts to Children’s Services

On May 2, 2013, Mayor Bloomberg issued the final Executive Budget of his Administration, which unfortunately included over $210 million in cuts to services and programs for children and their families.

Many of the Mayor’s proposed cuts are all too familiar.  The Budget once again proposes to eliminate child care and after-school programs for over 47,000 children.  In addition, the Budget proposes to cut mental health services for children under five, cut runaway and homeless youth services, close five child health clinics, eliminate the city subsidy to four school-based health centers, and cut funding that supports the use of food stamps/SNAP in farmers’ markets.  CCC has developed a chart that shows all of the cuts to services for children.

What You Can Do To Help

CCC will once again be fighting against these cuts and we hope you will help us.  You can:

• Take Action Now by sending a letter to the Mayor and other elected officials urging them to restore over $130 million for child care and after-school.

• Learn more about the work we are doing to save child care and after-school for over 47,000 children by checking out the Campaign for Children website.
