January 21, 2015 Governor Releases Executive Budget for FY 2015-2016On January 21, 2015, Governor Cuomo released his $141.6 billion Executive Budget for State Fiscal Year 2015-2016. The Governor’s budget proposals take a number of important steps to make New York a better place for children and families. We are particularly pleased to see an increase in the minimum wage, investments in quality early childhood education and more resources for affordable housing, supportive housing and funding to address homelessness. We also fully support the plan to improve outcomes for youth and public safety by raising the age of criminal responsibility in New York and ensuring no 16 or 17 year old will be placed in an adult prison in the future. You can read a list of the proposals that impact children and families in our full summary. For more information about the New York State Budget process, check out our one-page guide, New York State Budget 101. We look forward to working with the Governor and the State legislative leaders in the coming weeks to produce better outcomes for New York’s children and youth.
