July 8, 2013 Free Summer Meals for All NYC ChildrenSchool may be out for the summer, but the need for healthy meals never takes a vacation! Thankfully, for over 30 years the Summer Meals Program has provided free meals to New York City children during the summer months. The program is now underway for summer 2013, and runs through August 30th! All New York City children under age 18 can get breakfast and lunch for free – no forms or identification required! There are over 1000 sites throughout the five boroughs that are serving free breakfast and lunch. These sites can be found at schools, pools, parks, libraries, camps, public housing developments and soup kitchens. In addition, there are several mobile food trucks distributing meals to children at Orchard Beach in the Bronx, Flushing Meadows Park in Queens, and outside of the Queens Public Library. It’s easy to find the site nearest you: call 311, text the word NYCMeals to 877-877, or search online. And please spread the word to the families you know or with whom you work. | Comments |
