CCC Celebrates Child Advocacy at the Museum of Modern Art
Citizens’ Committee for Children of New York held its most successful fundraiser ever last week, increasing our ability to address the pressing and complex challenges that too many New York City children face. With 1 in 4 children living in poverty, and threats to children’s programming looming, it has become even more critical that we use our proven research, community education and advocacy to achieve our singular mission of making sure every child is healthy, housed, educated and safe. We thank everyone who joined us at MoMA to support and reinforce that mission. RELATED: Check out the CCC@MoMA photo gallery At the event, we honored Eugene “Gene” Ludwig and Dr. Carol Ludwig, who have been significant supporters of CCC for the past decade and are major philanthropists in a number of areas, including children, families and medical research. Gene Ludwig is the founder and chief executive officer of Promontory Financial Group and a trusted adviser to many of the world’s leading financial companies. Dr. Carol Ludwig is a physician who is board certified in both Neuropathology and Neurology whose recent work has centered on supporting educational opportunities for low and moderate-income students in the DC area and on supporting neurodegenerative disease research. We also honored Elaine Kessel and her husband Mark Kessel and their family. Elaine is a longtime CCC Board Member and psychotherapist who focuses her work on empowering women and supporting families in crisis. Mark is former managing partner of Shearman & Sterling, founder of Symphony Capital, a private equity firm dedicated to helping foster biopharma innovation, and an advocate for improved healthcare access around the globe. Their children have supported CCC as well other important child and family-serving organizations for years. Speaking on behalf of her family, Elaine Kessel talked about the ways CCC engages its volunteers through meaningful advocacy and her deep belief in the organization’s work. She said:
In his remarks, Gene Ludwig noted the importance of organizations like CCC in maintaining a strong social fabric and thanked CCC for the work it does to protect and promote the needs of children and families. The event raised over $1.3 million that will directly support CCC’s efforts to engage and mobilize a diverse coalition of New Yorkers on behalf of children and families. We are incredibly grateful to the event’s Chairs, major corporate and individual supporters–including our lead sponsor The Ludwig Family Foundation–and the many dedicated Benefit Committee and Junior Council members who donated their time and effort to our special event. Thank you so much to everyone who came out in support of New York City’s children and families. The event was a powerful reminder that the fate of our city’s children is in good hands and will be protected.
