CCC celebrates another year of advocacy

Last week, more than 700 New Yorkers gathered at the Museum of Modern Art to celebrate another year of advocacy with CCC and mark the significant achievements of the past year, including the passage of legislation to raise the age of criminal responsibility.

At the event, CCC honored global Head of Operations and Technology at Citi, Don Callahan. Don has a long history of championing education and protecting New York’s children and families when they are at their most vulnerable in his capacity as Board Chair Emeritus at Manhattanville College, Board member at the Red Cross of Greater New York, and former Board member of the New York Hall of Science.

CCC also honored Board Vice President Jessica Aaron and her husband Todd Aaron. Jessica served as the youngest Board Chair and President in CCC history and is currently a Vice President of the Board, in addition to serving as President of the Board of Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children—New York City. Todd served for several years on the board of the Food Bank for New York City, and he and Jessica were recognized last night for their unwavering commitment to children’s causes.

In her remarks, Executive Director Jennifer March reminded the audience of the looming threats to programs and services on which vulnerable children and their families rely.

She said: “This is a critical time.  The children and families of New York City and the nation face unprecedented assaults on their health insurance, food stamps, public housing, earned income and child care tax credits, school meals, environmental protections – and more – making our work more important than ever.”

The event raised over $1 million for CCC’s research, community education and advocacy on behalf of New York’s children. We are incredibly grateful to the event’s Chairs, major corporate and individual supporters–including our lead sponsor Citi–and the many dedicated Benefit Committee and Junior Council members who donated their time and effort to our special event.

Thank you so much to everyone who came out in support of New York City’s children and families. The event was a powerful reminder that the fate of our city’s children is in good hands.
