January 22, 2013 Campaign for Children Kicks Off 2013 Advocacy!January has been a busy month for the Campaign for Children! This Coalition of over 150 organizations, including CCC, is continuing its work to ensure New York City children have access to high quality early childhood education and after-school programs. Last year, the Emergency Coalition to Save Child Care and the New York City Youth Alliance partnered to form the Campaign for Children and successfully advocated for the restoration of $150 million so that over 47,000 children were able to remain in child care and after-school programs. Unfortunately, $120 million is one-year funding and the Administration has already proposed additional cuts to child care and after-school. The Campaign for Children will be working hard to both restore those funds and to ensure current and future City elected leaders focus on stabilizing and expanding these two critical systems that enable children to learn and parents to work. Last week, the Campaign released a new report that documents the negative impact the instability of both systems is having on programs, providers, staff, parents, children and communities. The report was released at a press conference. You can read more in the report, the press release or this news coverage. The Campaign has also been holding Town Halls in all five boroughs – working hard to engage parents, providers and communities in our advocacy efforts. You can read more about our Town Halls in Staten Island and Queens. There is much more work ahead! You can join the Campaign for Children, and stay up to date on the latest efforts to provide New York City’s children with access to high quality early childhood education and after-school services. | Comments |
