2011 Census Shows Continuing Disparities in Child Well-Being Across the Boroughs

Download CCC’s Snapshot of NYC Children and Families in 2011, based on data from the United States Census Bureau’s 2011 American Community Survey, which highlights key statistics about what it is like to be a child in New York City and in each of the five boroughs.

One out of every three of NYC’s almost 1.8 million children is living in poverty.  But the percent of children living in poverty, the median income, the unemployment rate, and the percent of children receiving food stamps/SNAP, all vary by borough.  For example, median household income for families with children ranges from a low of $30,564 in the Bronx to a high of $84,433 in Staten Island.  Similarly, the unemployment rate is 16.3% in the Bronx, 12% in Brooklyn, 10% in Queens, 9% in Manhattan and 8.3% in Staten Island.

This data is an invaluable tool for CCC when we advocate for programs, services and resources.  We hope that you will download the snapshot and use it in your advocacy efforts as well!
